Are you someone who thinks about people, fish, and birds? Are you passionate about helping others discover nature and learn something new? Do you believe, like we do, that the aquarium at Naturum Sommen can inspire others to learn more about nature and also about Ydre?

We can offer you a meaningful, fun, and varied job as a nature guide. You will be welcomed into a friendly work environment, with short decision-making paths and a municipality that focuses on quality of life.

About Naturum Sommen

Naturum Sommen is a visitor center for the entire Sommen region. It is beautifully located on Torpön in Ydre municipality, surrounded by the clear waters of Lake Sommen. The main theme of the nature center is Lake Sommen and the valuable species and environments found in the area. Through our exhibitions and activities, we aim to spread knowledge and engagement about nature in general and about the nature and culture of Lake Sommen in particular. We offer daily activities and a varied program including lectures, insect netting, and guided tours in the surrounding natural areas. Naturum Sommen is located at the northern tip of Torpön, where there is also a cable ferry, a restaurant, a high ropes course, and camping. Naturum Sommen is one of the 32 nature centers in Sweden authorized by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to use the Naturum brand.

Your Tasks

As a nature guide, you will help run the operations together with other employees. Your main task is to staff the nature center, which means welcoming visitors, showing and explaining the exhibition, managing the reception, simple administration, and the cash register. You will also participate in planning and conducting larger guided tours and activities. As a nature guide, you will also lead guided tours and nature guidance for, for example, school classes and booked groups. Other tasks may include cleaning and maintaining the nature center, checking the technical equipment in the exhibition, managing informational materials, and updating social media.

The most important mission as a nature guide is to provide visitors with a good experience by being available, welcoming, and inspiring!

About Ydre

The municipal office is located in Sweden's smallest locality, Österbymo, in the magnificent Ydre in southern Östergötland. About 3,700 residents live here year-round, and in the summer, we become significantly more.

YDRE - Östergötland's Secret Deep in the forests of southern Östergötland, on the border with Småland, there is a small municipality called Ydre. Many do not even know that the place exists. But once you have visited the village, seen its enchanting nature, listened to the silence, dipped your toe in the clear waters of Lake Sommen, breathed in the fresh air, tasted the local food, and gotten to know a resident of Ydre, you know you have discovered something special – a hidden treasure. That is why the place is marketed as through a whisper, in trust, so that you can partake in the treasure. So listen closely, for when you hear the word quality of life whispered in your surroundings, you know the destination is near.
